Roadtrip 2000
South to San Francisco Part 2

Read first part of San Fran trip, here.

This was the longest (2600 mi) motorcycle road trip I've been on and thankfully the saddle was made for long distance riding. Although I may climb off a bit fatigued at the end of a day's ride, stretching the muscles prepares for a pain-free ride the next day.

Travelling by motorcycle is a free spirited way to see the countryside. Being so far away from home I thought coastviewsm.jpgI'd miss the security of a vehicle, only having a backpack and motorcycle saddlebags to carry the necessary items for a 10 day trip. But we managed quite nicely and I never missed climbing into a vehicle just to press your nose against the window to view the world around you.

On a roadtrip, you get used to the routine of stopping every couple hundred miles for fuel and a stretch. As you pull on gloves and snap up the gear, you mentally prepare for the next leg of the journey.

After miles and miles of small winding roads along lonely Hwy 1, meandering oceanside then inland, we eventually arrived at the Bay Area. Stopping for lunch in goldengatesm.jpgSausalito we browsed through the Harley Store before venturing over the Goldennorthofggsm.jpg Gate Bridge. I felt overwhelmed by personal victory, as we crossed the famous bridge into my favourite city away from home; San Francisco.

We stayed for two nights in the city by the Bay and enjoyed every minute. Pub hopping spiced up our first night, which was in contrast to our early nights on the road. A visit to a jazz club on our last night was just the right touch of relaxation before the long trek homeward.

seasidesm.jpgAs we headed north bound on Hwy 101, finally calling it a night in Crescent City, CA. Our last night was spent in Seaside, Oregon and the next morning we suited up in case of rain and headed up the north coast. From the town of Aberdeen, WA the tired Buells headed inland toward Olympia. We hit a bit of rain in this part of Washington but weren't surprised since we were close to our home in Vancouver British Columbia and it's typical climate.

The last leg of the journey up to the Border seemed droning along the Interstate highway. We were making good time but already longed for the twisting road of the Coast again. It was a great trip with memories never to forget!
